We BE ORIGINAL- by. King James

WE Be Original

WE supposed to be — hair curly,
called nappy, Nubian, all natural.
Royalty relevant, Heaven’s descendants —
how can WE be “undocumented immigrants”
when WE were the original occupants
of this whole territory called Earth?

Our birth written into scripture —
made in His image:
skin of bronze, hair of wool.
Not letting the wool be pulled
over the mind’s eye —
who y’all trying to fool?

WE be Adam, seeds of Eve,
chapter one, verse one —
stars, moon, sun —
the begun from the beginning,
when loss wasn’t even thought of,
because our existence was winning.

WE are pretty, beautiful, handsome —
humanly extraordinary,
extravagantly divine.
Living, breathing masterpieces
handcrafted by the Almighty —
models molded to rule,
the blueprint of what civilization
was meant to be.
