LOOK AT ME!!!
By: King James Title “ Look At Me!!! “
“Look at Me, Mommy”
Look at me, Mommy —
because when I walk out that door,
this could be the last time you see me breathe.
I’ve never said “F** the police,”*
but Mommy, it feels like they don’t give a f*** about me.
My pants are on my waist,
no hoodies, no hat covering my face —
and that shouldn’t matter.
Since when did the way I dress
decide if I’m guilty of something I never did?
Mommy, please…
kiss my face,
hug me tight,
tell me you love me
before you have to bury me too early.
When I step outside, who knows what’ll happen?
I’m just an innocent bystander
in a world of random gun clapping.
It’s something I’m used to —
but I shouldn’t be.
Nobody should expect to be shot
on their way to school.
Look at me —
I’m not a thug.
I’ve got no use for a gun,
no beef in the streets.
So why do the police —
or my own people —
want to shoot me?
It’s just you and me now, Mommy.
Senseless violence took Daddy
before you even had me.
I don’t rep a hood.
I just want to do good.
Look at me —
I’ve got dreams.
I want to make it out of this hell
they call “the ghetto.”
It’s not cool —
but damn…
just saw on the news
a white kid shot up his school.
